VEHICLE MODIFICATIONS ASSESSMENT

Vehicle modifications can support safer access to transport as a driver, passenger or wheelchair user. The right solution depends on the person's functional needs, vehicle type, transfer method, equipment, goals and funding pathway.

• Wheelchair hoists, ramps and restraint systems
• Transfer aids, swivel seats and vehicle access supports
• Passenger access and seating options
• Alternative driving controls or driving-related modifications where appropriate
• Fit between the person, wheelchair or mobility equipment, vehicle layout and daily transport needs

Assessment may include review of the person's functional abilities, transfer requirements, wheelchair or mobility equipment, transport routines, carer support, vehicle measurements and supplier options.

Where required, Sarah can liaise with vehicle modification providers, equipment suppliers, driving instructors, families, support coordinators and funding bodies to support a coordinated recommendation.

Vehicle modification recommendations require clear documentation, trials, quotes and consideration of safety, usability, value and longer-term needs. A written OT report can be completed to support NDIS or other funding applications where appropriate.
